The traditional way of participating in Girl Scouts has been through troops. When girls register for Girl Scouts,
they are assigned to troops by age level and school. These troops are led by trained troop leaders.
FRIENDS FOREVER! One of the most special things about being a Girl Scout is the bond you form with other members of
your troop and your troop leader. Some troops are together for 13 years! Friendships continue and grow no matter what
classes you have, what sports you play or what cliques might form in school.
LEARNING TOGETHER! As part of a troop you learn how to work as a team and discover that each person has something
unique to contribute to every project, goal, activity or outing. Troops coordinate many of their own activities
but may also participate in council-wide programs. Girls in troops can also participate in Girl Scout programs and
events in addition to their troops.
BE THERE! Troops often meet once a week or every other week after school, but meeting times, locations, and
frequency are really dependent on what works best for the girls and their advisors. Special projects and events
also may occur on various evenings and weekends.
